Liam Gallagher outlines solo LP plan…

Noel Gallagher

Liam Gallagher has said he’s recording with the remaining members of Oasis, apart from his brother Noel, and that he’ll release new material in 2010.

Speaking in a video interview with MTV Italy, the 37-year old said: “We’ve been demoing some songs that we’ve had on the quiet. After Christmas we might go in the studio and record it and hopefully have an album out in July.”

Oasis split up while on tour in France in August with Noel Gallagher citing Liam’s behaviour for the reason behind his departure.

Noel, who’s given no interviews since the break up, is believed to be working on his own solo project.

‘New band, new songs’

Liam Gallagher, who plans to record with ex-Oasis members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey added: “We’ll do it in a different kind of way now. I’ll try and reconnect with a new band, new songs and I’m feeling confident about the songs.

“I’m feeling a million per cent confident that they could be better than Oasis.”

On the subject of his relationship with his brother, Liam said: “I love him to bits but we just don’t get on.

“Me and our kid have never been that close anyway. Alright, we were in the band but we kept ourselves to each other, he’d do his thing and I’d do my thing, I’ve got my friends, he’s got his friends.”

Midweek Music – Jamie Cullum, Twentysomething….

This weeks midweek music spot takes me back to my time at college, I honestly thought this song was written about me, the lyrics suited me down to the ground, most of them still do. Have a listen and let me know what you think, this is Jamie Cullum, and this is Twentysomething:

Strokes voted album of the decade…

The Strokes

The Strokes’ debut album Is This It has been named the best album of the decade by music magazine NME.

The Libertines’ 2002 debut Up the Bracket was voted second in the list of the top 50 albums, with Primal Scream’s XTRMNTR coming in third.

Bands such as Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys, plus record producers and label bosses were among those who cast their votes.

Guitar-led rock acts dominated the list with nine out of the top 10 places.

Is This It, with its lo-fi scratchy guitars and hits like Last Nite and Someday, was one of the most acclaimed albums of the year when it was released in 2001.

Its infamous cover shows a hand in a black vinyl glove resting on a woman’s naked thigh – thought by many to be a reference to Spinal Tap’s fictitious Smell The Glove album.

‘Definitive word’

The Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas said of his band’s top position: “It’s totally crazy! I thought it was great when I heard.

“But does it mean it’s a good musical decade or a bad musical decade? I don’t know, I’m such a bad judge of my own stuff.

“Recording the album was fun. It was stressing, it was exciting. I don’t want to get carried away, but I’m pretty damn psyched with myself,” he added.

The year 2002 is the most well-represented in the list with eight albums, including releases by Interpol, The Streets and Queens of the Stone Age.

NME Editor Krissi Murison said: “This is the definitive word on the greatest albums of the 00s – as voted for by everyone who helped make music brilliant this decade.”

The full top 50 can be seen in this week’s issue of the magazine.

Lewis to sing Avatar theme song…

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis has recorded the signature song for upcoming science fiction film, Avatar.

The 24-year-old X Factor winner performs the tune that will accompany the closing credits. It’s called I See You.

Lewis could find herself with a global hit on her hands considering the anticipation around the film.

James Horner and Simon Franglen – the men behind Celine Dion’s Titanic hit My Heart Will Go On – are also on board to produce the song.

The much-hyped Avatar, directed by James Cameron, is being billed as an epic adventure with new standards of special effects. The director first conceived the film 15 years ago but back then the technology didn’t exist to make it happen.

Premiering in London in December, it tells the tale of an alien race defending their land against human invasion.

It features Aliens actress Sigourney Weaver, as well as Sam Worthington and Michelle Rodriguez from Lost.

Lewis meanwhile seems to be back on track after being badly shaken by her recent assault at a book signing.

The London born singer has just released Echo, the follow-up to her multi-million selling debut album, and also announced last week she’s setting out on her first UK tour next summer.

Music Monday – Julian Perretta, Wonder Why…

I think I have highlighted Julian before, but I thought I would let give him this spot again, as he is currently supporting Beyonce on her European tour. This is Julian Perretta and this is Wonder Why:

Cole plans duet with Snow Patrol…

Cole/Patrol

Cheryl Cole is to duet with rock band Snow Patrol at this week’s Children in Need’s charity concert.

The X Factor judge will sing Martha Wainwright’s lines from the Snow Patrol song Set The Fire To The Third Bar at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday.

Frontman Gary Lightbody told the Spinner Music website that some people had “raised an eyebrow” when they heard about the collaboration.

The BBC has denied reports that Robbie Williams will sing with Take That.

‘Not true’

The Sun newspaper said Williams, who left the band in 1995 to launch his solo career, would perform with Take That at the gig, which has been organised by Gary Barlow.

But a BBC spokeswoman said that was “categorically not true”.

Speculation about Williams re-joining Take That has increased since the singer told Jonathan Ross on his Friday night chat show that there are plans for him to perform with the band again some time in the future.

The 35-year-old said: “We’ve got together, done bits and bobs. I can’t say much.”

Meanwhile, Lightbody said there were other unexpected duets planned at the charity concert.

“Everyone doing that gig has to duet with someone from the gig,” he said.

“Everyone gets a partner, it was like getting a partner at school. We got the prettiest girl in the class.

“People have raised an eyebrow now and again when we’ve mentioned we’re doing it with Cheryl Cole but I think it’s going to be a really interesting experience.”

In October, Barlow told Radio 1 breakfast show presenter Chris Moyles that each act would be doing two songs, but promised there would also be “three or four one-off duets that have never been seen before”.

Other acts taking part in the charity gig include Muse, Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Shirley Bassey and Dizzee Rascal.

Music Monday – Biffy Clyro, The Captain

music mondayThis weeks Music Monday is from Biffy Clyro, they performed at my Freshers Fair a few years back and I wasn’t too sure who they were. However now I know who they are, and I know that this is one of my favourite songs at the moment, its Biffy Clyro, and its ‘The Captain’:

Robbie confirms Take That reunion…

Take That

Pop star Robbie Williams has said there are plans for him to perform with Take That again some time in the future.

When asked by Jonathan Ross whether he would be working with the band, Williams said: “Yes I hope so.”

The 35-year-old, who is a guest on Ross’s Friday night chat show this week, said: “We’ve got together, done bits and bobs. I can’t say much.”

The singer also performed his new single You Know Me and one of his biggest hits, the 2002 song Feel.

Three new tracks were also recorded for red button viewers.

‘Traumatic’

The star, who has just launched his comeback after a three year hiatus, revealed why he stopped performing live for a while.

“The decision was made for me, I’ve always been very nervous,” he said.

“You don’t know what’s going on in my head. It’s traumatic, really scary. I ended up in rehab again, it was ‘what are you doing to yourself?’ I thought it’s time to break the cycle.”

Williams talked about his girlfriend Ayda Field and said he thought he was “going to be a bachelor” until he met her.

“I was introduced to Ayda and things just changed. She’s a wonderful person and I’m in love. She’s really broody and I’m getting there,” he said.

The singer will reportedly be streaming his new album, Reality Killed The Video Star, on the free music website Spotify a few days before its official release on 9 November.

Comedian Jimmy Carr and tennis champion Serena Williams will also appear on the show, which starts at 2235 GMT on BBC One.
